Local Tides plus Ocean & Shoreline Inhabitants...

Tide Tables      Ocean Info

The water temperature tends to be cool and refreshing most of the time and waves have been known to support skim boarders and body surfers easily on many summer days.

Look to the trees near beach central for a barren tree on the cliff tops where rests the resident eagle family of 3.  They have been a fixture on the beach for as long as one remembers and often soar above us in the thermal drafts as they are frequently  chased by seagulls and crows.

You will also see any number of local birds in the area including woodpeckers, kingfishers and stately blue herons which are housed in the largest heronry Vancouver boasts in the forests behind the beach.

There are smelt fishermen in season with their hand held nets competing with the local birds for position.  Crabs, clams, mussels and oysters can be found amongst the rocks, however, please check with the local authorities to see if they are safe to eat.

For great pictures and information on our local ocean and shoreline birds, seals, otters, dolphins, seaweeds, fish, shellfish and other marine life see  Ocean Info

Need a simple and easy guide for tides plus sunrise and sunset info? Definitely check the tides before venturing on the shoreline trails from Spanish Banks or Jericho Beach so as not to be scrambling the cliffs on the way back to avoid the wet waves.  Tide Tables
